Virtual Golf, An Effective RX for Parkinson's - PMD Alliance

Golf is the closest game to the game we call life.  You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots-but you have to play the ball where it lies.

Parkinson’s symptoms change constantly. Things like balance, strength, flexibility, mobility, and rotation can be fine one minute and an uphill struggle the next. Staying active and incorporating movement into your daily schedule is immensely beneficial when living with a movement disorder like PD. Unfortunately, these last twelve months have been devastating to our fitness routines and exercise habits.  Trapped inside, we’ve been forced to get creative and be open to trying new things, such as taking exercise and hobbies virtual. Can everything be translated online? Could golf, one of the world’s oldest sports, go digital and still be therapeutic…and fun?

We are excited to share that the answer is yes! We have has created a truly unique virtual golf and fitness experience at Park Place Golf Club.

This virtual 18-hole golf and fitness training program provides instructional golf videos paired with functional fitness workouts where you can track your progress. And it’s designed specifically to help keep your Parkinson’s symptoms at bay. Whether you’re an avid golfer or just beginning, this program can help with balance, gait, strength, flexibility, mobility, and rotation. Consistency is key, so we encourage you to book and complete three rounds per week to receive the best results.

Here’s how it works.

  1. Simply log into the program and book your tee time, which is your training session.
  2. Play your round—watch a short instructional golf video hosted by a golf pro, complete your functional fitness video of choice led by a certified trainer, and then hit your balls. (Note: If you don’t have access to a driving range, you can order a net and carpet from the Club and hit your balls in your backyard, garage, or a park.)
  3. Sign your scorecard. Track and record your progress throughout the program.

We know it can be hard to fully imagine virtual golf from your own home, so we’re offering PMD Alliance community members their first week FREE. We want you to be able to experience the transformative effect golf can have on your health before committing to a monthly membership.

Or if you’re ready to become a Park Place Golf member now, we’re offering 10% off your first month.  Use the code PMDALLIANCE101 to redeem.
