We continue to get real with care partners and adult children in our Getting Real!™ Online virtual community. Have you joined us yet? This virtual community designed just for family members was launched last month and continues to grow and add unique features to help support those who are supporting people with movement disorders.
In June, the community will also roll out its chat forum feature – a place within the community where people can engage in messaging about more than a dozen specific topics related to caring for someone with a movement disorder, such as “male care partners” or “finding balance”.
This feature will provide a safe place where people can share thoughts and resources, ask questions, and connect with others who share in your journey. These groups are designed to encourage dialogue that enhances the learning experience and offers support through shared experience.
Getting Real!™ Online will also be launching bi-monthly support groups specific to care partners and adult children, and they will be facilitated by social worker and PMD Alliance staff member Alissa Taylor, MSW. These “Real Talk care partner groups” will be held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 2-3pm PT.
The first session of the month will be an open discussion while the second session of each month will be a round-table format. Each month, the group will focus on one of the topics from current videos available in the Getting Real!™ Online library. The round tables allow real and organic discussions to expand our understanding and the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and support each other along the journey. The video library will be updated regularly!
As Getting Real!™ Online continues to grow and expand, we look forward to your feedback about the virtual community and hope that it’s a place where you can find support, a place to connect, and a place to access valuable resources and information to help you in your journey.
